Universitas Pertamina Establishes Divestment Policy for Coal and Oil Investments

In a significant step toward strengthening sustainable financial management, Universitas Pertamina has officially adopted a policy to divest from carbon-intensive energy industries, particularly coal and oil. The commitment is outlined in Circular Letter No. 0009B/UPER-WRP.4/SE/II/2025 on the Divestment of Investments from Carbon-Intensive Energy Industries. The policy restricts new investments in carbon-intensive industries, provides a mechanism for the gradual divestment of existing investments, and encourages investment toward more sustainable and low-carbon sectors.
Universitas Pertamina will not make new investments in companies, financial instruments, or business activities that significantly depend on carbon-intensive energy industries, particularly coal mining and production and oil exploration, production, and processing.
Under Point 3 of the policy, Universitas Pertamina provides for portfolio evaluation and gradual divestment of existing investments in carbon-intensive energy industries, considering legal, contractual, financial, and sustainability-related factors.
The policy also promotes consideration of investments supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency, low-carbon technologies, decarbonisation, and other sustainable activities. Point 6 establishes periodic portfolio evaluations to identify investment exposure to carbon-intensive industries and inform decisions on reducing exposure, divestment, or reallocating investments toward more sustainable alternatives.
Through this policy, Universitas Pertamina aligns its investment practices with its broader commitment to sustainability, energy transition, and Net Zero Emissions.
