Universitas Pertamina Strengthens Its Commitment to Carbon Neutrality through Emissions Measurement and Energy Transition

Universitas Pertamina strengthens its commitment to carbon management through emissions measurement, Scope 3 inventory development, and energy transition. In its 2025 Sustainability Report, Universitas Pertamina states its support for Indonesia’s Net Zero Emissions (NZE) 2060 agenda.

Scope 2 Emissions Measurement

In 2025, Universitas Pertamina conducted an Energy Audit of the Griya Legita Building, including electricity consumption assessment and Scope 2 emissions calculation. The results recorded 72.05 tCO₂ in 2023 and 78.79 tCO₂ in 2024, based on electricity consumption and the Jamali grid emission factor.
YearScope 2 Emission
202372.05 tCO₂
202478.79 tCO₂

Scope 3 Emissions Inventory

Universitas Pertamina is also developing an interim Scope 3 emissions inventory based on 2025 activity data, covering Purchased Goods and Services, Capital Goods, Waste Generated in Operations, Business Travel, and Employee Commuting. The inventory expands carbon footprint measurement to indirect activities beyond energy consumption within campus facilities.
The inventory identifies Employee Commuting at 3,991.8 tCO₂e and Capital Goods at 1,327.9 tCO₂e as the two largest reported categories. These data help Universitas Pertamina identify priority emission sources as a basis for developing targeted emissions-reduction measures.

Energy Transition through Renewable Energy

Universitas Pertamina complements emissions measurement with the deployment of renewable energy. The 2025 Energy Audit records 10 kWp of on-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) and a 2 kWp off-grid wind turbine installed at the Griya Legita Building.
The measurement of Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions, Energy Audit, and deployment of renewable energy demonstrate the strengthening of institutional carbon management at Universitas Pertamina. However, the available 2025 evidence does not establish a specific target date for Universitas Pertamina to become carbon neutral; the NZE 2060 date referenced in the evidence is Indonesia’s national target.
