Promoting Conscious Water Usage on Campus at Universitas Pertamina

Universitas Pertamina actively promotes conscious water usage among students, employees, service partners, and visitors through institutional guidance, visible water-saving reminders, and water-efficient practices in campus facilities. These measures are aligned with the university’s Green Campus Guideline, which includes water conservation as part of environmentally responsible campus management.
Universitas Pertamina issued Circular Letter No. 0009A/UPER-WRP.4/SE/II/2025 on Wise Water Management within Universitas Pertamina, dated 24 February 2025, addressing the academic community, administrative staff, service partners, and visitors. The circular provides practical guidance on using water according to need, turning off taps after use, and avoiding unnecessary running water during handwashing, ablution, equipment cleaning, and other campus activities. Campus users are also encouraged to report leaks, damaged taps, and water wastage promptly through official university reporting channels.
Section 3, “Active Promotion and Education on Campus,” specifically directs university units and facility managers to support the placement of water-saving messages at points of use, including toilets, ablution facilities, laboratories, canteens, and shared areas. These messages are intended to communicate practical conservation actions, encourage leak reporting, and introduce safe water-reuse practices.
The circular also encourages student organisations and campus communities to participate in water-saving campaigns, peer education, and proposals for improvements. It calls for campaign materials and activity documentation to be published through official university channels for public access. The Sustainability Center is assigned to compile outreach and campaign documentation and coordinate an implementation review at least annually.
Water-saving reminder stickers are installed in areas where water is frequently used, including washbasins, toilets, and ablution facilities. These reminders provide direct, visible prompts for students, employees, and visitors to avoid unnecessary water use during everyday campus activities. Placement at points of use allows campus users to see the guidance when washing their hands, using sanitation facilities, or performing ablution.
The awareness measures are reinforced by water-efficient fixtures and operational practices within campus buildings. Examples include approximately 80 dual-flush toilets in Griya Legita and washbasin faucets with a flow rate of approximately 3.6 litres per minute, together with routine plumbing inspection and maintenance to reduce avoidable water losses. The circular also encourages water-saving working practices in offices, laboratories, canteens, cleaning services, and landscape maintenance while maintaining hygiene, safety, and service quality.
