Global Green Chemistry Innovation and Network Programme (GGINP)

Jakarta, Indonesia – Universitas Pertamina successfully organized a series of events under the Global Green Chemistry Innovation and Network Programme (GGINP), aimed at advancing green chemistry principles to promote sustainable development. The program unfolded through three pivotal stages: the Green Synergy Summit, Green Chemistry for Industrial Excellence (GCIE), and the Advancing Green Chemistry (AGC) training program.

Series of Events

Green Synergy Summit: A Platform for Dialogue and Collaboration

Held on May 29th, 2024, the Green Synergy Summit served as the starting point of this impactful series. The event emphasized the 12 principles of green chemistry and their potential to address pressing global challenges such as pollution and hazardous waste.

Keynote speakers, including Raditya Eka Permana (Ministry of Industry) and Salil Dutt (UNIDO Indonesia), highlighted Indonesia’s commitment to reducing hazardous substances like persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and microplastics. Interactive focus group discussions (FGDs) allowed participants from industries, academia, and government to explore pilot projects and regulatory frameworks for green chemistry implementation.

This summit also marked the official launch of GGINP Indonesia, reinforcing the nation’s role in this global initiative.

GCIE: Training for Industrial Excellence

The momentum continued with the Green Chemistry for Industrial Excellence (GCIE) training program, held on August 6-7, 2024, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta Bintaro Jaya. Designed to bridge theory and practice, GCIE brought together experts such as Lars Ratjen, Ph.D. (Yale University) and Dr. Eng. Paramita Jaya Ratri (Universitas Pertamina).

Participants engaged in sessions on green chemistry alternatives, feasibility studies, and life cycle analysis. The program also showcased successful industrial applications, featuring panels with industry leaders from PT. Thermax International Indonesia and PT. Nippon Shokubai Indonesia.

Inclusivity remained a priority, with 50% female participation encouraged to foster diverse perspectives in the field.

AGC: Comprehensive Training on Sustainability and Innovation

Concluding the series was the Advancing Green Chemistry (AGC) program, a five-day training from October 7-11, 2024. The event focused on sustainability strategies and innovative solutions for sectors such as plastics, agriculture, and textiles.

Prominent speakers, including Prof. Audrey Moores (McGill University) and Matthew S. Moroney (Metabolic), shared insights on life cycle assessment and circular economy. Participants collaborated in workshops and business pitch sessions, presenting innovative projects that embodied green chemistry principles.

“Integrating green chemistry into industrial processes is essential for fostering sustainability while driving innovation,” remarked Prof. Djoko Triyono, Vice Rector for Research and Development, during the opening session.

This series of events demonstrates Universitas Pertamina’s commitment to championing green chemistry as a cornerstone of sustainable development. From strategic dialogues at the Green Synergy Summit to hands-on training at GCIE and AGC, the program provided a comprehensive framework for stakeholders to drive impactful changes in their industries and communities.

With these initiatives, Universitas Pertamina continues to lead in fostering innovative, eco-friendly solutions that align with Indonesia’s sustainable development goals and global environmental commitments.
