Water Consumption Measurement and Tracking at Universitas Pertamina

Universitas Pertamina measures and tracks the total volume of water used across all university areas from public mains supply and groundwater extracted from aquifers. In 2025, our total water consumption was 21,351 m³, equivalent to 3.77 m³ per person per year, comprising 99.72% public mains water and 0.28% groundwater. Public mains water supports daily campus needs, including sanitation, handwashing, cleaning, and landscape irrigation, while groundwater is used for ablution.
Our campus is located within the Pertamina Simprug complex in South Jakarta, where public mains water is shared by Universitas Pertamina, Pertamina Corporate University, Pertamina Foundation, and other users. Universitas Pertamina accounts for approximately 98% of the complex’s shared mains-water consumption, based on the population-based allocation used to distinguish consumption among institutions. This percentage refers to our university’s share of the shared mains supply, while the 99.72% figure represents mains water’s contribution to our university’s total water consumption.
Our Asset Department coordinates monthly with the Asset Management Department of PT Pertamina (Persero) to record mains-water consumption, covering all university areas: the Rectorate Building, Griya Legita Building, sports hall, canteens, Science Laboratory, and Modular Building. Consumption is monitored through cumulative meter readings, with the volume for each reporting interval calculated by subtracting the opening reading from the closing reading and expressed in cubic metres (m³). The university’s share is then determined by applying the approximately 98% allocation to the complex’s recorded mains-water consumption.
Meanwhile, groundwater consumption is managed and recorded directly by our Asset Department through water-meter readings. This separately metered groundwater volume is added to the university’s allocated mains-water consumption to determine the total volume of water used by Universitas Pertamina, ensuring that both sources are included.
We compile these records and manually enter the consumption data into the Universitas Pertamina Sustainability Dashboard, which presents annual consumption and enables comparisons across reporting periods. Through monthly coordination, monitoring across all university areas, and accounting for both shared mains water and separately metered groundwater, we provide a transparent basis for reviewing campus water demand and informing water management decisions.
